Choose the right die
D4, D6, D8, D10, D12, D20 and D100 describe the number of possible results. A D20 returns a number from 1 to 20. Use the shortcuts for the most common dice, or pick any size from the Sides list. This virtual RPG dice roller works for Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) and other tabletop roleplaying games.
D4: four-sided die
Returns 1 to 4. Often used for small weapons and minor healing effects.
D6: six-sided die
Returns 1 to 6, the same range as a standard board game die. Roll several at once for larger effects.
D8: eight-sided die
Returns 1 to 8. A common choice for mid-sized weapons and hit dice.
D10: ten-sided die
Returns 1 to 10. This roller numbers the faces 1 to 10 rather than 0 to 9.
D12: twelve-sided die
Returns 1 to 12. Useful for heavy weapons and any 1 to 12 range.
D20: twenty-sided die
Returns 1 to 20. Most ability checks, attacks and saving throws in D&D start with a D20, which is also the only die that supports advantage and disadvantage here.
D100: percentile die
Returns 1 to 100 in one draw, for percentage tables and random encounters.
Modifiers and advantage
For 1d20 + 3, add 3 to the die result. Advantage rolls two D20s and keeps the higher; disadvantage keeps the lower. Apply the modifier once.
Adding a modifier
Enter any whole number from −1000 to +1000. With several dice, the dice are added first and the modifier is applied once to the total, so 3d6 + 2 with rolls of 1, 2 and 3 gives 8.
Advantage and disadvantage
These modes are available for exactly one D20. Both raw results stay visible: with advantage [8, 17] + 3 the result is 20, and with disadvantage [8, 17] + 3 it is 11. For other dice, roll mode stays on Normal and the tool explains why.
Percentile dice
This tool reports D100 results from 1 to 100. Check your game rules when using physical percentile dice with 00 markings.
